Tiger
Replacement for a friend's Tiger piece that burned in the River Fire 16x20 Acrylic on canvas 2021 Creating the tiger, I kept laughing at myself because I’d redo the image over and over, moving things around, placing the correct perspective over the last layer. It was goofy and inaccurate. I could have just planned ahead, made a transfer, but no, I prefer to play the miserable martyr. While I was painting, I thought about my friend, Cory, a tattoo artist, who has no choice but total perfectionism. He nails it the first time. Ink is unforgiving. If that tiger was a tattoo it would have been a bloody blob ten layers ago; the skin of the patron would have been a mangled mess. There will not be any tattoos in the future by me. And tattoos? Small canvas. No, thank you. The fattest back still isn’t my new minimum requirement of 36x36. “You better finish that piece before it becomes a $1500 tiger,” My husband is so right. But I must maintain the integrity of my work. Just finish them, then buy the biggies. Fun is coming. Deferred gratification! |
